Psychosocial Risk Assessment
Psychosocial risk refers to the combined effects of factors experienced by employees in the workplace — such as workplace conflicts, work organisation, working schedules, and job insecurity — which influence their responses to these factors. As a result, work-related stress, workplace accidents, or stress-related physical (psychosomatic) illnesses may occur.
What is a psychosocial risk assessment?
A psychosocial risk assessment is a workplace assessment that examines factors affecting employees' mental health and wellbeing. These include workplace stressors, organisational culture, work–life balance, and the psychological and social impacts related to work.
The purpose of the assessment is to identify potential psychosocial risks and reduce them in order to ensure that employees can work in a safe, healthy and supportive working environment.
All employers are required to have a psychosocial risk assessment in place.
Who is authorised to carry out a psychosocial risk assessment?
Conducting a psychosocial risk assessment is considered a specialist occupational safety and occupational health activity. It must be carried out with the involvement of a qualified occupational health and safety professional and an occupational health physician.
How often must a psychosocial risk assessment be reviewed?
A psychosocial risk assessment must be reviewed at least every five years for assessments prepared on or after 1 January 2025.
For assessments prepared before this date, the validity period specified in the existing document must be taken into account. Upon the next review, the five-year review cycle may then be applied.
The process of conducting a psychosocial risk assessment
The psychosocial risk assessment is carried out through a structured, multi-step process:
Preliminary assessment and preparation
In consultation with the employer, we define the objectives of the assessment and determine the appropriate data collection methods.
Data collection
Employees' experiences and perceptions are assessed using questionnaires, interviews, focus group discussions, and other relevant methods.
Analysis and identification of risks
Based on the collected data, workplace psychosocial risk factors are identified and evaluated.
Development of recommendations
To reduce identified risks, we propose practical and targeted measures, such as stress management training, changes in work organisation, or other employee support programmes.
Decision-making and implementation
Together with the employer, we determine which measures will be implemented and support the initiation of their execution.
Follow-up and evaluation
After a defined period, the implemented measures are reviewed and evaluated, and further actions are recommended if necessary.
